Is It Ever Too Late for a Cooling System Tune-Up?

Well actually, that’s not true. It is too late for a cooling system tune-up if your air conditioner has completely broken down and is beyond repair. But hopefully, you won’t let it get to that point!

The thing is, most HVAC professionals–including our team–recommend that you have your air conditioner maintenance done in the spring before you need your AC system the most. The reason we suggest this is so that you have plenty of time to get it on your schedule and have your system inspected, but also so that if we find any repair needs, you can get those on your schedule too before summer hits.

But that doesn’t mean that if you never scheduled maintenance this year, you should just skip it! In fact, we’d rather you be consistent with your tune-ups than worry about what time of the year you have it done. Regardless of the time of year, maintenance will benefit you in a number of ways, including:

Boosting System Efficiency

Maintenance helps your air conditioner maintain a better level of energy efficiency than if you were to skip your annual tune-ups. In fact, maintenance can help your cooling system retain 95% of its efficiency throughout its entire lifespan! Skipping maintenance, however, will create issues that will only hinder efficiency–loose and worn components, dirty coils, and just overall wear and tear all play a role in a system’s demise.

Requiring Fewer Repairs

Routine maintenance will help keep your air conditioning repair needs to a minimum. The thing is, when a small repair need is neglected for too long, it starts to have a domino effect and impact other components in the system until you have a complete system breakdown. On the other hand, you can have routine maintenance done each year (or every six months, if you have a heat pump) and avoid up to 85% of the repair needs your system might ever need.

Performing More Effectively

Maintenance helps our technicians catch a variety of problems while they’re still small. This might include grime build-up on an evaporator coil, or even a loose or bent fan blade. These issues sound minor, and they are! But as we mentioned above, if you let a small problem go on for too long, it becomes a bigger one. But when you take care of the problems, your air conditioner can perform as powerfully as its meant to.
